You Can Create Your Own Feed on Medium

Hereā€™s how

Like many of you, I suspect, I enjoy the fact that Medium ā€œpushesā€ certain topics, authors and publications my way. Itā€™s easy and works to my benefit ā€¦ mostly.

However Iā€™m always exploring ways to change up this dynamic and be more in control of the content that comes my way.

Warning: Iā€™m a techno moron, but I think Iā€™ve figured something out here.

Look above in the screenshot and focus on the upper left hand corner.

To the right of Melanie J.ā€™s name (and to the right of ā€œ1.2K followersā€ and ā€œaboutā€ are two ā€œbuttonsā€.

One of the buttons is the ā€œfollowā€/ā€followingā€. Clicking that allows one to follow Melanie J. (as one should, IMHO).

The next one to the right is where it gets interesting and shifts the information feed locus-of-control to you. Clicking the button with the little envelope in it means that every time Melanie J. publishes youā€™ll (Iā€™ll) get an email.

Iā€™ve done this dozens of times and continue to do so for all the authors I come across that interest me.

This does mean that on a daily basis my gmail account is bursting at the seams, but Iā€™m OK with that. I simply ā€œrun the listā€ā€¦
