I've taken it one step farther and now opt to Zelle money to those I wish to gift. 1 - seems extremely safe, 2 - they can spend it as they see fit and they're not restricted to a given store, 3 - works at any distance from the recipient (relevant because I live far from most family and friends), 4 - gets used, unlike many gift cards.
