Hi Frank - interesting perspective and solid advice from an emotional standpoint for the writer. Claps x 50, a couple of highlights, a couple of comments and a bona fide 30+ seconds of read time, all great stuff, agreed. It's hard to imagine that every Medium writer wouldn't love such attention. BUT ... do you have any insights on the incremental value in $ for these activities? If, for example, a legit read generates a dollar for the writer (yes I know it does not, this is just keeping the math simple) what is the added value of 50 claps, several highlights and then several comments? I do not write on Medium for the money, nor do I decline Medium's monthly additions to my bank account, but I do frequently question what drives people's behavior on the platform as they engage with the material posted here. I also question why Medium has made it nearly impossible, if not absolutely impossible, to build a sustainable audience for one's work.
