Here's one of my personal experiences with the media
FRESNO, California (CNN) -- A passenger -- in an apparently unprovoked attack -- cut the throat of a bus driver with a pair of scissors, sending the bus hurtling into a cotton field and killing two passengers, sheriff's deputies said Tuesday.
A suspect was taken in to custody shortly after the attack Monday night. Twenty-one passengers were treated at the scene, and 25 were taken to hospitals.
The driver survived and was in stable condition, according to Lt. Margaret Mims of the Fresno County Sheriff's Department.
She said the bus was traveling at freeway speeds at around 9 p.m. Monday in Fresno County, between San Francisco and Los Angeles, when the passenger walked from the back of the bus to the driver and slashed the driver's throat.

I was the bus driver's treating physician, the bus driver with the "slashed" throat.
>>>
When I rushed in to see my patient expecting a surgical disaster, I was greeted by a calm seated, non-bleeding man. His "slash" was the equivalent of a shaving nick and required no medical attention whatsoever. Yet many other media outlets continued to report that the "slashed" throat had resulted in a bus crash. In fact, fright and the fear of being harmed (rightly) resulted in the crash. To my knowledge, this was never disclosed.

I've had several similarly disappointing personal media encounters and have learned not to engage with members of the media or trust them to report truthfully, regardless of political persuasion.
I do agree, that the erosion of trust in what once was a truly noble profession is sad. It is also dangerous and harmful to our society in a wide variety of ways.
